LEITAT is a private, non-profit technological centre of excellence. Its mission is to manage technologies to create and transfer sustainable social, environmental, economic, and industrial value to businesses and organisations using research and technological processes. The Environmental Technologies Area, within the Circular Economy Department, focuses on the integral management and treatment of water/wastewater, among other fields. Several technologies for water reuse and nutrient recovery are in the portfolio of capacities.

LEITAT will coordinate the whole NINFA project, as also will be the responsible of R&I, as LEITAT have strong expertise in social engagement and awareness within its Circular Economy Department. LEITAT will also lead the WP3 leveraging on the high experience and expertise gained through EU Projects and 14 national projects in the field of environmental technologies, as coordinator (4 of them), WP leader, partner, or subcontractor related to innovative water treatment technologies.

– R&I aspects: LEITAT will bring in knowledge on sustainability assessment (Sustainability Area, Circular Economy Department), water treatment technologies (separation and purification technologies, AOP and NBS), and soil management to the consortium.

– D&E&C aspects: Leitat is member of 77 Spanish platforms and 54 international platforms such as Water Europe, the World Association of Industrial and Technological Research Organisations, the Spanish Association of Water Desalination and Reuse, and the Catalan Water Partnership. These platforms make possible the collaboration of Leitat with dozens of stakeholders (RTOs, industries) on water research and innovation. The main exploitation way of NINFA’s results will be the acquisition of specific knowledge on pollutants removal from diverse water/liquid streams using innovative technologies, which will be used in future projects on water pollution, and will lead to 1-2 scientific publications, as well as 3-4 Congresses on water quality.
